Student innovation: from idea to practice
As a student at the University of Copenhagen, you can work with innovation. You can learn how to translate your academic knowledge into concrete solutions that can help create value in society.
Through study activities and special innovation offers, you can develop your skills in idea generation, problem solving and entrepreneurship.
Make a difference by using your knowledge for innovation
Innovation is about learning how to use your knowledge in the real world.
Having knowledge is not all – it’s also about being able to use it. As a student at UCPH, you will learn to analyse, examine and create new knowledge within your discipline.
With the University’s innovation offers, you can become better at seeing opportunities, testing solutions, collaborating with people with different perspectives and navigating in situations where things are not always planned in advance. In short, you will learn how you can bring your academic expertise into play in the real world.
It could be the starting point of you being a business owner or an entrepreneur.
Innovation as part of your studies at UCPH
At UCPH, you can work with innovation in many ways – both as an integrated part of your studies and through activities alongside your studies.
On some programmes, innovation is integrated into compulsory courses. Other programmes offer innovation and case studies through elective courses.
Often, you can use individual course elements to work with innovation, for example in connection with large papers or internships where you work on your own project.

UCPH Lighthouse supports all students working with innovation
Regardless of what you are studying and how far along you are, you can get inspiration, knowledge and practical experience with innovation at UCPH Lighthouse – the University’s innovation centre.
For example, we offer:
- Events and workshops where you will learn how to work in problem-solving and innovative ways
- Sparring on a concrete idea, project or startup that you want to develop – or if you want to know more about the options for working with innovation during your studies.
- Office space, meeting rooms and networks with other students who work with innovation (book a meeting if you want to hear more)
- Guidance on individual course elements (e.g. innovation internship)
- Lighthouse Launch, a three-month programme that offers you targeted support to test your idea.
